I am sitting on a train this morning thinking what a waste of resources, effort and ultimately money an empty train carriage is. Like a the good chap I am, I thought I would share my thoughts with you.
I started thinking about the rail system overall and how similar it is to a packet system used within the internet. Packets of data whipping along between two points, similar to trains, I thought. But the big difference is that the packets of data only travel when required, they are not “going there anyway” like trains are, full or empty.
How would it be to have rail travel – on demand – ready to go when you want to go. How much money would that save? OK not on demand, but how about there needing to be say, 100 passengers on the train before it would leave? Would that sort our railway system out?
These may be pie in the sky ideas but sitting in an empty carriage listening to the tannoy talking to no one seem a waste of money to me.
