The optimisation of your website is where it can get a bit technical.

There are several points about the actual website software you use and what information you need to give to the Search Engines to help them record your website. Some website software is not that search engine friendly. If you are unsure about yours, ask an expert.

Technicalities of website optimisation

The page titles, description and the meta-tag keywords are all dealt with by optimisation as well as correct navigation and site maps etc.

Often too much emphasis is placed on keywords in the meta-tag area. The fact is that Google does not use the keywords in meta-tags as a method of deciding what the website is about. Also there is no need to flood your keyword meta-tags with hundreds of useless terms. Far too often we have to correct simple mistakes such as putting “UK” in as a keyword.

If in doubt - ask an expert

The most important part of website optimisation is about content. This is where you need to spend the most time and effort regarding your website. Ask an expert to help you write the words. Remember that Google uses your actual textual content on your website to rank it, not the keywords!

Another very important point about optimisation is the frequency of your updates. Not only is it embarrassing to have a website that is out of date. Google looks for content that has been updated on a regular basis.
A list of the minimum a website needs to succeed in search engines:

  • Professionally optimised website
  • Unique and keyword rich content
  • Regular updates
  • Expert advice

Think about it logically, if you are a search engine you are going to prefer the websites that are “well managed” i.e. updated regularly. These are seen as better results for search engine users.
