Hello, and welcome to "Website Success in 5 Minutes.".
I’m Shaun Carvill, the founder and managing director of Digital Agency Clickingmad, and today we’re going to talk about a term you’ve probably heard a lot: "What makes a good website? And is this a silly question?"
It may sound basic, but understanding what makes a good website is essential for any business. A website isn’t just a place for people to find your contact details or see what you do. It’s a powerful tool that can help your business grow, build trust, and engage with your new and existing customers.
So, what should a good website do for your business?
Firstly, a good website should clearly represent your brand. It should tell visitors who you are, what you offer, and why you are different from your competitors.
The design and content should match your brand’s style and message so that people instantly know what your business is all about.
Second, your website should help you get more customers.
That's whether you’re selling products, booking services, or simply encouraging enquiries, your website should encourage visitors to take action.
It needs clear calls to action, like "Buy Now" or "Contact Us," to guide users towards doing what you want them to do.
Literally sign-posting them.
Third, a good website should provide valuable information. It should answer common questions, explain your products or services, and offer helpful content, like blog posts or videos.
This not only helps your visitors but also shows that you’re knowledgeable and above all trustworthy.
A good website should also work well on any device. People use phones, tablets, and computers to browse the internet, so your site should look good and function properly no matter what device someone is using.
This ensures everyone has a positive experience when they visit your website.
Additionally, your website should be part of your overall marketing strategy.
It should link to your social media, be included in your email newsletters, and be optimised for search engines so that people can find you easily online.
A well-made website helps you reach more potential customers and keeps your marketing efforts connected.
Security and speed are also important for a good website. It should load quickly to keep visitors from leaving out of frustration, and it should have security measures to protect your business and your customers’ information.
Finally, a good website should be easy to update.
As your business changes, your website should change too. Whether you’re adding new products, services, or just updating content, a flexible website makes it easy to keep everything current.
So, is asking "What makes a good website?" a silly question? Definitely not! It’s a crucial question that every business should consider.
A good website is key to achieving your goals, growing your business, and connecting with your customers.
That’s it for today’s episode of “Website Success in 5 Minutes.” I’m Shaun Carvill.
